A Little Less Tradition, A Lot More You

Who Made the Rules, Anyway?

Some wedding traditions are treasured heirlooms. Others are just habits with excellent public relations. If the bouquet toss makes you happy, toss away. If it makes you want to disappear behind the dessert table, perhaps we can retire it. The loveliest weddings tend to be the ones where the couple recognizes themselves in the celebration.

Start With a Feeling, Not a Checklist

Before you decide on a hundred little details, ask each other what you want your guests to say on the way home. 'That felt so much like them'? 'I haven't laughed that hard in years'? 'I actually got to talk to the couple'? Those answers are a better compass than whichever trend is having its moment online.

Keep, Change, or Kindly Decline

You can keep the first dance and skip the grand entrance. You can exchange private letters, include family traditions or choose music that means something only to the two of you. Be considerate of loved ones who care about certain rituals, but remember that consideration doesn't require reenacting a wedding that belongs to somebody else.

A Setting That Lets You Be Yourselves

At Bentley Farms, our historic 12-acre York estate offers character without prescribing a theme. We are a venue-only property, so your professional planner and chosen vendors help shape the details around your priorities. Want a formal, romantic evening? Lovely. A spirited celebration with personality in every corner? Also lovely. The point is to make choices that mean something.

The Small Things Often Win

Build in time to eat, to breathe and to see the people who came to celebrate you. Make space for the conversation that wasn't scheduled and the photograph you didn't plan. If you'd like to explore a venue where your own traditions can take center stage, come see Bentley Farms in person.
